What is health and wellness coaching?

According to the International Consortium for Health and Wellness Coaching, Health and Wellness Coaches partner with clients seeking self-directed, lasting changes, aligned with their values, which promote health and wellness and, thereby, enhance well-being. In the course of their work, health and wellness coaches display unconditional positive regard for their clients and a belief in their capacity for change, and honoring that each client is an expert on his or her life, while ensuring that all interactions are respectful and non-judgmental.

What is an Integrative Health & Wellness Coach

Integrative Health and Wellness Coaching is a client-centered, relational approach to working with individuals collaboratively to address the health and wellbeing of the whole person. It acknowledges the interdependent roles of mind, body and spirit, and the innate healing capacity within each person, with an emphasis on self-care. An integrative health or wellness coach forms a partnership with individuals or groups to empower and support them in achieving their personal goals related to optimal health and wellness.

Susana has the training and expertise in this capacity with a Graduate Certificate in Integrative Health and Wellness from the University of Maryland, Baltimore.

How is it different from going to a medical practitioner, dietitian, or mental health counselor?

Health and Wellness Coaches do not diagnose or treat medical/mental health conditions. They also do not prescribe meal plans as dietitians do.

Coaching can be with individuals, groups or couples.

Do sessions have to be in person?

No. Sessions can be held over the phone or via video conferencing. This is an advantage for those with busy schedules or for long-distance individuals.

What can i expect from seeing a health & Wellness coach?

Be ready to discuss chronic conditions, any medications or supplements you take, your eating habits, your current ailments and challenges, and your sleep and exercise patterns.

A coach will help you clarify your goals and break them down to smaller more doable steps. You may have a specific goal in mind (like dropping 10 pounds, or getting quality sleep 7 hours each night) but if not, that's OK. Simply wanting to get healthier and feel better is enough.

If your coach isn't already working directly with your health care providers, bring their contact info so she can reach out if necessary.

A coach might help you explore complementary therapies backed by science, like acupuncture, chiropractic care, or mindfulness-based stress reduction. Follow up with your doctor about any treatments you plan to pursue.

Most coaches offer an initial conversation for free. After that, expect to pay about $90 for the initial 1 hour session and $45.00 or more per session there after. Group coaching is commonly more affordable but individualized attention is compromised. The cost of coaching isn't typically covered by insurance, but you may be able to get reimbursed through your Health Savings or Flexible Spending Accounts.

What topics can be addressed during coaching?

Coaches understand that individuals' wellbeing is physically, mentally and spiritually interrelated. Topics can range from reducing and managing stress, to increasing physical activity, building healthier habits, or learning to eat make your own food instead of eating fast food. Topics can also include having a better quality of life while living with chronic conditions.

Are there payment plans for coaching?

Yes! There are payment plans for all Coaching Programs as well as for our Group Programs. Please contact us before purchasing any of these programs online to set up your payment plan.
